Simon Victor Linsteadt is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound designer based in Los Angeles. He has composed music for concert, screen, theater, and dance, and has released numerous albums. He regularly composes music for This American Life, having written over thirty pieces for the show.

His compositions for dance have premiered at Z Space Theater, Fort Mason San Francisco Aerial Festival, San Francisco International Arts Festival, ODC, and many more. In spring of 2026 he was the composer and sound designer for ‘Scenes for Metamorphoses’, a site specific theater production directed by Anne Kelly at California Institute of the Arts.

Linsteadt began his career touring and making albums as a singer-songwriter and the frontman of Bay Area bluegrass band Steep Ravine. He has performed at such venues as The Fillmore, The Great American Music Hall, Strawberry Music Festival, The Freight and Salvage, and many more.
